It seems like my tips/hints have been helping people because I don't seem to own you all quite so much lately. Anyway, here's another installment of Mr.Chicago's wisdom.
1) Fast, silent and deadly - when using the m4/colt it's a great idea to use the silencer. While I've heard rumors that it makes your shots weaker, that deficiency is far outweighed by the fact that enemies can't tell where you are when you're shooting from afar. While you can still hear the silent shots if nearby, when you're halfway across a map, all they hear is the bullets hitting the wall or better yet... their head... lol. When putting on the silencer, you can shorten the attachment time by switching to another weapon right after you put the silencer on, and then switching right back to your rifle.
2) Bullet holes, your second "radar" - Because some guns are silenced and you can't hear where the shots are coming from, you can use the impact of the bullets on the wall to gauge where the enemy is.
3) Pistol/knife, for more than killing - In the middle of a firefight, when you run behind a wall for cover, it helps to switch to either your pistol or knife because you run faster. This also works well when you're being shot and can't move. Sometimes switching to your pistol/knife will speed up recovery from movement hindering attacks.
4) Spray n pray, not just for nubs - As Chris said in his last post, you should usually burst fire (hold down the fire button for 2-4 shots at a time), however, when up close and personal with the enemy it doesn't hurt to throw caution to the wind and spray.
5) CS men are so sensitive - Sensitivity plays a huge role in how accurate you can be. The higher you have your sensitivity, the faster your mouse moves the crosshairs. High sensitivity is useful for quick 90 and 180 degree turns, HOWEVER, it greatly reduces your ability to aim precisely. Playing with a lower sensitivity will allow you to readjust your shots with more precision when burst firing at enemies. I personally play with my sensitivity at 3.0. To change your sensitivity, go to the console and type "sensitivity VALUE" replacing VALUE with the numerical value you want.
6) I've seen the light - While many of the custom maps are fun to play, sometimes they aren't always designed well. Many custom maps have extremely light and dark areas, making it hard to see enemies and your crosshairs. You can change the color of your crosshairs between four (I think it's four) different colors by typing "adjust_crosshair" in the console, or you can use the bind I explained in another post. As for the darker areas in some of the maps, you can change your gamma in the console to make the screen brighter or darker by typing "gamme VALUE". You can choose values between 0-3.0.
7) Multiple target threat assessment - While this may seem like common sense, I'll throw it in here anyway. When facing multiple targets/enemies sometimes it's difficult to choose which one to shoot. Here's my general rule of thumb, start with the enemy closest to you because they pose the largest threat.
8) Grenades 101 - Nothing makes me happier than to see an enemy with a nade in hand. Do NOT run around with a nade. Only switch to a nade when you plan to throw it. Also, try to not run into the open to throw your nade. Use the walls, ceiling or other environment objects to bounce your nade at your target without exposing yourself to enemy line of sight.
9) I wear my sunglasses at night - Flashbangs can be the key to success. Two things affect the effect of FBs, line of sight, and the space they're thrown into. A FB will not blind an enemy unless there is a direct line of sight from where it goes off and where the enemy is. A FB is also more effective in small enclosed spaces (blind longer and brighter). It is PARAMOUNT that you learn to bounce your FBs off of walls, etc to make sure you blind the enemy and not yourself or teammates.
10) INCOMING - Orc nades are such a nuisance, especially on small maps. The best way to avoid getting blown up all the time is to RUSH. Generally speaking, you should always rush TOWARDS a HE nade or FB nade, and when I say towards, I mean towards the origin of from where it was thrown, NOT towards the actual nade. =)
I can't really think of anything else right now, but if and when I do, I'll be sure to share it with all of you. Competition makes us all better, and knowing is half the battle... GO JOE! lol
Happy fragging,
